REFORMED THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY JOINS THE WASHINGTON THEOLOGICAL CONSORTIUM

WASHINGTON, DC —The Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Washington DC campus, joined the Washington Theological Consortium as an Institutional Member on July 1, 2009. RTS, Washington is one of five campuses for the Seminary, founded in Jackson, Mississippi. RTS was established in the Washington region in 1996 and is now located in McLean Presbyterian Church in McLean, Virginia.

RTS Washington DC is excited about becoming part of the Washington Theological Consortium and giving our staff, faculty and students the opportunity to broaden their ecumenical and interreligious understanding through engaging with the other member institutions of the Consortium.” Hugh Welchel, Executive Director.

 The Washington DC campus currently offers two primary degrees: the Master of Divinity (M.Div) and the Master of Arts (Religion). The M.Div is a professional degree for those intending to enter the ordained ministry. The Master of Arts (Religion) degree is designed for lay students who want to gain a deeper theological and biblical understanding and apply such an understanding to their distinct vocations. The mission of RTS Washington DC is to help raise up and equip the next generation of Christian leaders for the Church and for the community with “a mind for truth and a heart for God.”

The Washington Theological Consortium is a community of theological institutions of diverse Christian traditions whose mission is to embody and witness to Christian unity and to provide an ecumenical context for equipping leaders, while seeking a deeper appreciation of other world religions. Member institutions—including Capital Bible Seminary; Catholic University of America School of Theology and Religious Studies; Howard University School of Divinity; John Leland Center for Theological Studies; Lutheran Theological Seminary; Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies; Reformed Theological Seminary; Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University; Virginia Theological Seminary; Washington Theological Union; and Wesley Theological Seminary—share theological and spiritual resources with each other. The Consortium also includes Associate and Affiliate members, Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, St. Paul’s College, Washington National Cathedral, Graduate School for Islamic and Social Sciences and the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington, DC.
