Faculty Groups

The Arts — We do not have a specific plan yet for another meeting, but did discuss another field trip to an appropriate exhibition in New York some time after the first of the year.

Biblical Studies —Dr. Yieh is arranging the annual conference—he is planning for Friday, February 18th.

Christian Ethics
— For the November meeting the suggestion was Monday, Nov. 15. That is the day of the WTC   deans’ meeting at VTS. Begin at 5 p.m. here, dinner, and conclude by 7:30 p.m. John Corbett agreed to present his paper on “Gifts of the Holy Spirit” or, alternatively, a paper he has worked on in the area of public arguments and why there are intractable moral disagreements. For February – March, possible dates for me are Feb. 14 or March 7, 14, 21, or 28. Sondra Wheeler is willing to offer a paper from her book on public policy and matters of reproductive technology. The topic is “What Can you Get out of Public Theology?”

Church History —Our plan was to convene later in the year to do one of two things:  1) Share our experiences with writing for and editing journals, or 2) Discuss the challenges of teaching history in a post-modernist age.  I [Dr. Prichard] would like to survey historians to see which topic is the most attractive.

Ecumenism Faculty —annual dinner is held in February in conjunction with Ecumenism Committee meeting.

Environmentalists —Beth Norcross will be in touch after she finishes her doctoral project in November

Lay Formators —usually meet in spring semester

Librarians- - Our next meeting is November 3rd at VTS; Our continuing education event is scheduled for March 16th at the Semitics/ICOR library at CUA ( http://libraries.cua.edu/semitics/index.cfm); For the May meeting, we will be traveling to Virginia Union University in Richmond.

Mission and World Religions —will meet for dinner in Brookland prior to the InterFaith Concert at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on November 16 th.

Pastoral Studies and Field Education .—met at convocation, no meeting planned at this time. Dr. Joseph Bush of Wesley has volunteered to convene the group and to keep in touch with members over matters of mutual interest.

Practical Theology —plans still evolving

Preaching —met at Convocation, have no further meetings planned for this year.

Science and Religion —Public Lecture on Saturday November 13 th by Dr. Worthington at WTU ; regular monthly meeting on Friday, December 3rd

Spirituality — The Spirituality group had a lively session on Sept. 27, with lots of ideas.  We decided not to sponsor any "event," given that there are already some major WTC events being advertised, but we plan to have a lunch on Monday, Nov. 15, primarily to further "colleagueship."  This will likely (but not absolutely certainly) be held at the new Shalem headquarters on the Paulist College campus.

Systematic Theology –most likely will do a Colloquium in February
