Celebrations for the 2008 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

 

In April of 2007, the Consortium Council of Academic Deans, in honor of the 100 th Anniversary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, decided to list celebrations of the Week of Prayer each year. What follows are the ‘ returns until now.’ We will update this listing on the Consortium website [www.washtheocon.org] as further information comes in.

Traditional Week of January 18-25

 

January 17 [Thursday] Theological College at Catholic University will have a Service at 5:15

January 19 [Saturday] The Riderwood Village Community and the Focolare Movement Celebration— 5:00 to 8:00 PM—an evening of prayer, friendship and exchange of experiences followed by a pot-luck dinner. Riderwood Village, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904. For information call Chaplain Lisa Holloway 301-572-8331.

January 20 [Sunday] The group of 8 parishes/congregations in the Colesville/Burtonsville area will hold its Service at 3:00 PM at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 14411 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville, MD 20866.

January 20 [Sunday] Mary Reath, author of the recent book Rome and Canterbury: The Elusive Search for Unity will preach at Evensong at the Washington National Cathedral [ 4:00 PM] A book event and reception will follow at the CathedralCollege.

January 22 [Tuesday] The Lutheran-Anglican-Roman Catholic-United Methodist Dialogue in Northern Virginia will sponsor a service at 7:30 PM at Annandale United Methodist Church in Annandale, VA. Bishop Richard Graham of the ELCA will preach.

January 23 [Wednesday] Gettysburg Lutheran’s weekly Eucharist [ 11:35 AM] will use the Lima Liturgy. Dr. Oldenburg will be presiding with Rev. Kate Kellerman of Peace Memorial Episcopal Church preaching..

 

Consortium Week—February 3 to 11

 

February 4 [Monday] Consortium Student Board Service at 5:00 PM at the JohnLelandBaptistCenterin Arlington including the presentation of the Consortium Ecumenism Awards to Rev. Joan Brown Campbell and Brother Jeffrey Gros.

February 7 [Thursday] Washington Theological Union Evening Service—details to be Determined

February 12 [Tuesday] Wesley Theological Seminary—Oxnam Chapel— 11:00 AM John Crossin will preach
